Association Championships

Netball Associations across Victoria are grouped into 22 REGIONS which are then grouped into 6 ZONES as follows:

  • Northern Zone:                    Sunraysia, Murray, Wimmera Mallee and North Central
  • Western Zone:                     Glenelg, Western & Central Highlands
  • Central West Zone:             Jika, Elmer, Central Business District and Barwon
  • Central East Zone:               Dandenong Valley, Chisholm, Henderson and Two Bays
  • North East Zone:                  Goulburn and North East
  • Eastern Zone:                       East Gippsland, Gippsland and Latrobe Valley

Boroondara Netball Association is a member of the Chisholm Region and therefore the Central East Zone.

The annual State Association Championships are conducted over two stages in a round robin format. Each of the 6 zones  across Victoria play a qualifying tournament = the Zone Association Championship. Boroondara Netball Association will play off against other Associations from the 4 regions (Dandenong, Henderson & Two Bays) in the Central East Zone. The top 2 teams in each zone then play off against the other 5 Zones on the Finals Day to win the State Championships.

Eligibility:

  • Players may only represent Association Champs for ONE Association / ONE region / ONE zone.
  • Players may only represent the Association they play FOR, not where they play at ie) Power players cannot represent Waverley or Parkville, only Boroondara.
  • Players must be registered to, and have played a minimum of four (4) games in that Association/League’s own competition in the 12 months prior to competition.
  • Signed VNL players are ineligible

Boroondara Power team selections:

In the 13U, 15U & 17U* age groups we are permitted to enter one Championship Division team and one Reserve Division team. Only the Championship Division winners go through to the State Finals Day.

*The 17U team(s) may include players from our 23U team and Express Talent squad who are eligible.

Players from the 3rd squads in each age group will be invited up to replace players who are unavailable. Teams will be selected by coaches with Penny Forrest. We will select squads of 10 -12(max) in each team to maximise participation.

Players will NOT necessarily receive equal court time regardless of the talent identification process. Coaches have been advised to play their best combinations with the aim of winning the State Championships. If you / your parents are not able accept this decision, please withdraw to enable others to have the opportunity.

Talent Identification (TID):

Whilst the Association Championships provide our Association the opportunity to compete against other Association Representative teams, they also provide talented players with an opportunity to be IDENTIFIED by Netball Victoria Talent Scouts and invited through to the Netball Victoria talent pathway.

Netball Victoria will have TID staff (Talent Scouts) at all tournament days, looking at athletes in all age groups in both the Championship and Reserve division. “Identified” players are then invited to trial for the Netball Victoria Talent Academy Program and/or the 2026 State Team Program.

All players will have an ID number on their calf which correlates with their number on the team sheet which is given to the Talent Scouts prior to the tournament.
